MUSIC MINISTRY October 2011
"Canons of Praise"
Dedication
On September 25 those who serve in Music Ministry rededicated their efforts to the Glory of God. These precious few are:
Senior Choir: Sopranos, Sydney Huston, Marti Huepenbecker; Altoes, Sue Mead, Marilyn Freeman; Tenors, Ruth Beach, Larry Boldt; Basses, Mike Matuszak, Herb Snyder, Pastor David Vinciguerra.
Christian Arts Program: Paige Cottrell, Samantha Krause
Praise Team: Sue Mead, Carrie George, and percussionist Tom Montgomery
Already our snow birds, Mike and Sydney are leaving for Florida where Herb will also be spending part of the winter months. If you have been interested in participating in our choirs, now is the time to walk the walk - come and join us. You will find a warm welcome and a lift to your spiritual life.
As you read in my article from last month, a canon in its simplest form is a round. When you sing, "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" in a round you hear how the melody is echoed a measure or two later. St. Paul in his epistle to the Philippians challenges us to imitate Christ - to be an echo of the life and love of Jesus.
One benefit of singing rounds is that they are usually easy to memorize, to sing "by heart". And that is what we hope to bring to you, our congregation, psalms and hymns and spiritual songs that are easy to sing by heart so that the Word of God is planted in your hearts and minds as we live our lives attempting to echo the life of Christ.
A New Choir
We have several pre-schoolers in our congregation and we are hoping to have even more. In October we would like to begin a Pre-School Choir. This will give our very youngest members an introduction to music (singing, rhythms, dancing, choir chimes) and even worship. After conferring with the families involved we will announce the start up date in the next Parish Paper.
